Personal History Saren was born in 2320 on the Romulus home-world. His father was a scientist and his mother an engineer, so he gained heavy interest in both areas as he grew up. When he was thirty, as all Romulans were required to, he joined the Romulan military. There he trained for ten years in all aspects of military culture and afterwards served for ten years aboard the warbird IRW T’dir as an engineer. He then spent another ten years as a science officer on the ship. As he was an average officer and with no military ambitions, he knew he would never rise far in the ranks of the Imperial Navy, so he retired from the military to go work as a research scientist at a prestigious school on Romulus.

It was at the school when the first signs of his elemental nature started to show. He would have various bizarre, but lucid dreams. Occasionally equipment would fail around him, sometimes in spectacular shows of sparks. Other times he might have little flashes of ‘insight’ into a situation or know vehemently when someone was lying.

He often went to the temple of the elements to try and make sense of all the strange feelings and dreams he was having. A priest took interest in him and asked him to join, even just as a basic acolyte so he could continue his science studies.

Saren didn’t know it, but his latest ‘elemental experience’ which had brought down a computer system that the Tal’Shiar has placed a trace program in, attracted the attention of the local agent, who started watching him closely.

At the summer festival of the fire elements, a senior priest who lived on another continent, came to see the festival. When she looked in Saren’s eyes, she knew he was much more than he seemed, he was an elemental, although an unwitting one. Normally there would be signs when an elemental was born, but it seemed that the signs around him had been missed.

She brought him to the temple after the festival and had him tested. It seemed the signs were missed was because he was an elemental of the Archelement. These elementals often arrived without ‘fan-fare’.

That evening, the Tal’Shiar decided that they would extract Saren and see if he posed a threat to the Empire and if not, see if he could be used as a weapon. So, while he was walking home pondering what the priestess had said, he was kidnapped and brought to a Tal’Shiar facility.

For the next two months, Saren was put through all sorts of interrogations, tests, and experiments. Some triggered responses of various natures, others didn’t. One Romulan guard did get hurt once when a computer panel exploded, but that was the extent of the progress of weaponizing Saren. The Tal’Shiar were patient though.

What wasn’t patient was the Hobus star. Saren was being transferred to a different facility when the star exploded. Even though Saren was in a transport with no windows, he could see the blast coming as Romulus started to disintegrate. He closed his eyes, expecting to become one with the universe.

What happened to Saren next he can not put into words. In some dimensional pocket it seemed, it was as if he were going through a speed course of what he was becoming, but with no true measure as to whether or not he understood it. Then he stepped out of the dimensional pocket…
