Chapter III: The Hunt is On
Location: Eden (Briar Patch)
Timeline: 238703.24
The day had finally arrived, and the nervous excitement could be sensed all over Eden, the inhabitants of which had been extremely busy preparing for this day to come. What was special about that day was it was the day that Taryn and Lennon would marry. Unfortunately, due to the situation and the fact he was too far away, Robert and the rest of his family were unable to attend, although they had sent their best wishes to the happy couple ahead of their big day. To make up for the Stephenson family not being there, Taryn and Lennon decided to have their ceremony on what was Robert’s 51st birthday.
The ceremony, which would take place on the shores of the lake, would be conducted by Eric at the request of Taryn and Lennon. As the sun shone down on the glistening, still surface of the large body of water, Taryn waited patiently with Eric.
“I’m so glad you’re here, Taryn” Eric commented.
Taryn smiled. “Me too. Although, until Ian replaces Kestrel’s warp drive with that new one he’s been working on for the new shuttle, it won’t exactly be easy to go anywhere anyway”
“If he ever gets around to it, with all the projects he’s got on the go” Eric replied, smiling back.
Taryn giggled, knowing all too well that Ian was never content with working on one project at a time. She was all too happy to oblige when her brother offered to replace Kestrel’s warp drive with a brand new one, which would be able to travel faster, further and use less fuel. Taryn was in no rush to leave, so was happy to leave Ian and Lennon to it.
Around a quarter of an hour later, Skylar and Alice arrived, informing Taryn and Eric that Lennon was now on her way with Ian, who she had built a close friendship with. Ian had agreed to give Lennon away in Robert’s absence, while Aaliyah, Dessa, Niva, Noah, Reuben and Willa had all been given a role in the ceremony. It wasn’t long after Skylar and Alice’s arrival that Eric informed Taryn of her bride’s imminent arrival. A couple of minutes later, Lennon had arrived at the makeshift altar in her beautiful ivory wedding dress.
“You look amazing, Lennon” Taryn said, taking Lennon’s hands in hers.
Lennon beamed. “Look who’s talking”
After waiting for a few moments, Eric began the ceremony.
“Today, we are gathered here on this beautiful day to witness a significant part in Taryn and Lennon’s journey, as today they take the next step and become wife and wife. In the short time you have been together, you have grown to trust one another, learned how to make the other smile and shown that true love can survive any against the greatest odds” Eric said.
Eric then turned to Ian. “Before we begin, I believe Taryn and Lennon have asked you to read the poem they have chosen?”
“They have” Ian said, walking up to the makeshift altar.
Once he was in position, Ian began to read Robert Fulgham’s “Union”, which he had made sure to memorise before the big day. He was incredibly honoured to have been asked to give Lennon away and read a poem before the ceremony.
Eric smiled. “That was excellent, Ian, thank you”
Once Ian had returned to his place, Eric continued with the ceremony. Taryn and Lennon didn’t want their ceremony to take too long, as they wanted to be able to spend as much of the day as possible celebrating their union with their community.
“Do you Taryn take Lennon to be your wife?” Eric asked.
“I do” Taryn replied.
“And do you Lennon take Taryn to be your wife?” Eric asked.
“I do” Lennon responded.
“And now, I believe you have written vows for each other? Taryn, would you like to go first?” Eric continued.
Taryn nodded. She had spent several days planning her vows, as she wanted them to be perfect. Although they weren’t as long as she’d planned, Eric had wisely advised her that the number of words didn’t matter, it was the meaning behind them which counted.
“Lennon, I didn’t know what love was until I first met you. You have taught me so much about myself and made me a much better person in the short time we have been together. I promise that I will love you more each day, take care of you, cherish you and remain steadfastly loyal to you for the rest of my life. This ring I place on your finger is a token my undying, never ending love for you” Taryn said, placing the ring on Lennon’s ring finger.
Eric then turned to Lennon, who had also written her own vows.
“Even though we got off on completely the wrong foot, I knew that when I first laid eyes on you, I wanted and needed you to be my forever. Although my heart is not a physical one, it became forever yours in that moment. I will never be able to describe the joy I felt when you told me you loved me, however I hope that for the rest of my life, you feel the same happiness being my forever as I feel from being yours. No matter what, I will always remain loyal to you, and I promise that my indescribable love for you will never die. I love you Taryn, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you as my wife” Lennon said, placing the ring on Taryn’s finger.
Eric smiled. “It gives me no greater honour to pronounce you wife and wife. You may kiss the bride”
As everyone clapped and cheered, Taryn leaned forward and gave Lennon the sweetest, most loving kiss they had shared so far. When their lips parted, they whispered sweet nothings to each other before turning around to throw their bouquets, at exactly the same time. After they’d both been caught, by Skylar and Dessa respectively, the party walked the short distance to where they would hold the reception. Once everyone was ready, Ian pressed play on the antiquated radio he had repaired especially for the occasion.
As the music played, Lennon and Taryn took to the makeshift dance floor and began to sway side to side slowly, looking into each other’s eyes for the entire time. Several verses in, they began to sing to each other, taking turns to sing a line each.
“Did you ever know that you’re my hero? You’re everything I wish I could be…I could fly higher than an eagle…For you are the wind beneath my wings”
“Did I ever tell you you’re my hero? You’re everything, everything I wish I could be...Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle...‘cause you are the wind beneath my wings”
