Mission: Prologue: Before the Inferno

Vrih finished his conversation with the Commander. He knew through past experience that she had a plan, and it was probably a good one. He sat looking at the evening sky and thought about his non essential parents still on their home world. He was willing to do what was necessary to save them no matter what it cost him. As he thought about the Commander’s vague almost cryptic conversation he knew there was only one person with the manpower and experience that was needed or hinted at.

Finally coming to a decision he sent a message to Raven. Whether that was a real name or a pseudonym he did not know, but in his line of work one didn’t ask personal questions unless they were willing to die.

“Raven, it’s Vrih; I have a job for us that will require you and your merry men. Would like to discuss as soon as you’re available.” He left the message intentionally vague hoping to peak the Ravens interest.

Meanwhile, far away, the Raven's Claw had just left a tatty old space station after delivering some smuggled goods. Raven smiled as she counted the proceeds from the haul. It had been an easy job, and the pay had been very good. She had just returned to the bridge when Gedak, the young Ferengi helmsman, navigator, and "business acquisition" specialist, turned around to her.

"Ah, good that you're here, boss, we've got a message for you just coming in. Someone called Vrih."

Raven frowned. She had worked for Vrih a few times in the past, but not heard from him in a while. Last she knew, he had joined the Romulan Imperial military. "What's he want?", she asked the Ferengi.

"Says he has some work for us," Gedak replied. "Wants to talk soon as you're available."

Raven nodded. "Fair enough. Try and get a call up, I'll take it in my ready room."

Briskly, she left the bridge again and headed to her ready room. The room was tiny, and probably had served as some form of storage in the ship's original configuration, but her crew had hauled in a desk and some chairs and installed a computer access terminal when they refitted the Claw - after all, the leader of a mercenary band needs an office from where to conduct her business. Behind her desk hung a tattered Tal Shiar banner that they had found on the bridge when they first salvaged the ship, and an ornate klingon bat'leth was mounted to one of the other walls - spoils from one of the first missions they had flown using the old bird-of-prey.

Just as Raven had sat down behind her desk, a green light began flashing on her terminal, indicating that the comlink had been established.

"Vrih, Raven here. Been a while, thought you were dead, or worse, with the Tal Shiar!" She laughed. "So what's this job you got for me?"

Vrih laughed,"I'm not Tal Shiar, or dead yet, luckily for you. I have a job that is most likely bigger than anything you or I have taken on, I can tell you it is a grab and go mission of a larger variety. There are already a large number of assets committed to this but we need a few more. Unfortunately I can't give you much more over open communications, but if this is enough to pique your interests, I can send you coordinates for a meeting."

"Hm," Raven mused. "Sounds like a crazy scheme. Okay, send me the coordinates. Let's talk."

"Coordinates are being sent now, I will see you soon." Vrih replied as he sent the encrypted message.

The console beeped as the coordinates were received. "Got it," Raven said, with a smile. "Looks like that's about a day away from our current location, so I'll see you soon."

She closed the channel and returned to the bridge. Less than an hour later, the Raven's Claw jumped to warp.
