Chapter III: The Hunt is On
Location: Commander's quarters, I.R.W. Ourainavassa
Timeline: 238701.21
Raven was sat on her sofa, looking out into space, with Eavy snoozing on her lap. The day had been strange. When she woke up, Ellie was already up, and ready to go. She said she'd been urgently recalled to her ship, and had to leave early. But something felt off. It almost felt like she was running from something.
Still, as exciting as her reappearance had been, it had also been rather puzzling. As soon as Ellie had left, Raven had gone into her files, and looked up the ship she said she was serving on, the U.S.S. Amelia. Strangely enough, the most recent ship of that name, registry NCC-1939-C, was lost six months ago. And according to the ship's manifest, Ellie had been on the vessel when it was destroyed. So the question remained, who was this woman that Raven had shared her bed with the last few nights?
Deeply in thought, Sehan stroked Eavy's ears. This was a mystery. Suddenly, something caught her eye. A piece of paper, folded, was lying on the small table by the sofa. Ellie had always loved old-fashioned handwriting, and, sure enough, the letter was written in her style.
Sey,
when you find this letter, I will have left again, and you will have many questions. Maybe you will have found out about the Amelia, too.
There is an explanation for all of this, I promise, and I will tell you all of it, as soon as I can. But for now, know that I am yours, I always was and I always will be.
Remember the last thing you said to me that night. Regardless of where life takes us, we will always be together. And I make that same promise to you now.
Always yours,
Ellie
Raven stared at the letter in her hands for a moment, before crunching it up into a ball and throwing it into a corner. The movement, of course, woke Eavy, who immediately jumped after the paper and started playing with it.
After another moment staring into space, Raven got up. Maybe it would have been better if Ellie had stayed dead. She picked up her leather trench coat and walked over to her wardrobe. Whatever she had held on to for so long, it was gone.
Time to move on.
