Mission: Chapter IV: Unravelling the Mystery
Location: Vulture Base
Timeline: 238702.19

The day after Five of Eight had secretly communicated with the IRW Ourainavassa, he made prepared to make good his plans to escape from the Vulture. It was not going to be simple as walking out of the base to the shuttle, flying out of the region and to go to warp to make the rendezvous.

Five of Eight had nothing to take with it as it had lost anything of value when it had been assimilated, all it had was either fused to its torso or implanted into its body. The Borg had no need for personal possessions, nor material wealth.

Once Five had made sure all was in readiness, it exited the cargo bay where it 'lived' when not being put to work by the Vulture for their purposes, and slowly (due to the exoplate armoured shell) made its way towards the shuttle to escape aboard.

"I hate guard duty," Kragg said to his companion, lazily twirling his disruptor rifle. The huge Gorn and his stocky Denubulan comrade, Rox, made for a strange pair as they stood by the shuttle bay. Rox shook his head. "That was the deal we signed when we joined. A rotation of duties on base for the first two years. That includes guard duty." He looked around, and saw no sign of movement - just as it had been every night for the last month they had been on this post.

"I just don't get why we even need to guard the shuttles," Kragg argued. "This base is in an asteroid in the middle of nowhere, right? And everyone on here is loyal to the boss, so why would we need to guard from the inside?"

The Denobulan shrugged. "Look, orders are orders. We can argue about it all night, or we can just do our job." He reached into his pocket and took out a small leather flask. "Drink?"

Just as he lifted the flask to his mouth, Rox spotted some movement down the corridor. He picked up his rifle, and pointed it at the shadow he thought he'd seen. Kragg immediately mirrored his movements.

"Who goes there?", the Denobulan shouted. Looked like guard duty would finally become interesting.

Five of Eight emerged from the corridor without even bothering to try and hide from the pair and stood there examining the pair its face totally devoid of emotion, it recognized the pair as Vulture crew members, but beyond that knew little or them.

Kragg pointed his weapon directly at the approaching Borg, but Rox pushed it down with his hand as he lowered hus own. "Don't bother. He's probably got his shields. You'll need this." He grinned, and drew an old-fashioned revolver. "Phyisical projectiles always work."

The Denobulan looked at Five and held him at gunpoint. "So, Borg. Fifty-eight or whatever they call you. You better have a good explanation what you are doing here. I've been itching to finally try if this thing still works."

Five of Eight studied the pair and the 'revolver' "We are simply moving about the base, we have no commands to obey and are fully regenerated," it told the pair.

Five of Eight then turned its head suddenly as if to glance off into the distance as if it had detected movement elsewhere "We are not alone," it stated.

The Denobulan chuckled. "Nice try. Just going for a casual stroll, eh? Well, then take your stroll somewhere else. This area is restricted access, you know that."

Five of Eight did not react to the Denobulan's dismissal of its sly attempt to distract them it didn't move a muscle, instead it calculated the best means to neutralize them.

Five of Eight seized Rox who held the revolver, which was the most dangerous weapon and briefly contemplated assimilating Kragg but did not as the likelihood was the crew would find the pair long before the Borg did. Using its immense strength Five strangled the Denobulan to death.

As Five dropped the lifeless Rox it turned on the other one in readiness to neutralize it and make good its escape.

Kragg held up his hands. "Whoa, whoa. Like this, is it? That Denobulan annoyed me all the time, but killing him was a bit extreme I'd say. Sure, go ahead, take a shuttle. Doubt you'll make it off this rock alive, but that's a you problem. I just want to stay alive."

Five of Eight stood there for a few moments staring at Kragg as if pondering how best to deal with him, then it struck Kragg on the head with sufficient force to render him unconscious, but not enough to kill.

Five of Eight then deposited the corpse and unconscious form of Kragg into a storage room, sealing the door shut. Five then proceeded to its shuttle ensuring that any tracking devices on board were disabled before powering the shuttle up and taking off abandoning the Vulture base.
