Chapter III: The Hunt is On
Location: Drozana Station
Timeline: 238701.17/Evening
Xia emerged from her quarters ready for a night out on Drozana Station, where there was no air conditioning. Her black skirt was short, and her scarlet top was sequined and just a front shirt, tied on with thin spaghetti straps at the neck and lower back, leaving her back bare. Knee high leather heeled boots concealed her knives, and she had a couple hair pins in her up-do that could double as knives, as well. As she came out of her room, she ran into Miles.
“Sorry,” she greeted the turquoise-haired teenage boy, resting her arms on his so neither one fell over after the collision. “I hope I didn’t hurt you.” She flashed him a stunning smile. “Hey, I’m heading out for the night. I could use a partner. It’s always more fun to go out with friends.”
Miles was just on his way back to his and his sister's shared quarters after dinner. Gedak had offered them individual rooms -- there was plenty of space on the ship, after all -- but the two had always lived together, and preferred to continue the arrangement. So they had been put up in one of the smaller family suites, consisting of a small living room as well as two separate bedrooms. The suite was larger than any apartment the twins had ever lived in, but it seemed to be fairly standard for the senior officers' quarters on the Ourainavassa to be of considerable size, with a lounge area and a separate bedroom, as well as an en suite bathroom.
When Xia bumped into him, Miles staggered back a step, but quickly caught himself. "Evening, Lieutenant," he greeted her respectfully. While he knew his sister had struck up a friendship with the Betazoid, he had not yet spent much time speaking to her. When she mentioned that she was going out, the young man noticed Xia's outfit, and he could not help but stare for a moment. "Um, sure," he finally replied. "I can ask Mila if she wants to come, too. Got to go freshen up first though."
“Sounds great! I can meet you at the airlock,” Xia told Miles, giving him a playful wink before sashaying off for the lift.
An hour later, Miles, now dressed in what his sister told him "looked nice on him" -- simple, black slacks, nice shoes, and a white, short-sleeved shirt -- made his way to the airlock. Mila had declined the invitation to come along, citing tiredness and a headache, so the young man was on his own. Well, except for the Betazoid.
Xia was touching up her makeup with a colorizer applicator when MIles arrived, and she turned a stunning red smile on Miles as she greeted him. “Well, don’t you clean up nicely, love!” she said, and gave the teenage boy a kiss on the cheek. “I was thinking drinks at the bar first, loosen up a little, then go to Zero G for some dancing. What do you think?”
Miles was stunned by Xia's appearance, but quickly got over his nerves. "I mean, I am not much of a dancer, but, sure, sounds like a good idea."
Xia smiled. “Do you want to be?” she asked him with a wink as she took his hand and they headed out the airlock. “I can download some skill into your brain temporarily.”
As they passed into the station, they were hit by the wave of heat from the station, immediately beading some sweat that trickled down Xia’s cleavage as they melded into the flow of sentients that populate Drozana.
Miles chuckled nervously. "It's not my brain that's the problem, it's these damn fragile bones. I'm just not very...mobile."
“Ah,” Xia said. “Nothing I can do about that,” she admitted. “Well, at least until you get hurt. Then I can try and block the pain, or take it away.” She gave him a sympathetic look. “We won’t do anything too...energetic. We can start with the Junior High Shuffle,” she told him with a bright smile.
Xia used a little application of her mental powers to gently nudge people out of their way to make their passage through the crowds easier, and soon enough they found themselves at the bar.
Miles was feeling like he was dreaming. The last few weeks had been almost too good to be true. First, he and his sister get picked up out of the slums on Drozana, hired by a mercenary crew working for the Romulans. Then he got to fly one of the most advanced warbirds in the quadrant. And now, he was on a night out with one of the most beautiful women he'd ever met! When he was sure Xia wasn't looking his way, he pinched himself. Nope, hurt like a bitch. He was definitely awake.
Finally, they reached the bar. Quickly, he dug in his pocket for a few scraps of latinum. Miles Lynn would not let a gorgeous woman buy him the first drink; his sister would never let him hear the end of it! He smiled at Xia, his heart almost beating out of his chest. Taking a deep breath to steel his nerves, Miles turned to the Bolian behind the bar. "I see you have some Earth beers on tap, I'll take a Heineken. And whatever the lady would like."
“Samara Sunset,” Xia said, then turned to lean on the bar as they waited for their drinks. “Whatever you like tonight, let me know,” Xia told Miles. “That was some good flying in combat. You deserve a reward.” She turned back to the bar when her drink was ready. It was a clear liquid, but she flicked her nail against the edge of the glass, and colors started to swirl, reds, oranges, yellows, settling into layers like a sunset. She sipped the citrusy concoction as she turned back to Miles. “You ever been with a woman, Miles?” she asked, her full red lips smirking around her straw.
Miles choked on his beer and went bright red. He had heard that Betazoids could be rather forward, but this was a bit more than he had bargained for! After a moment, he managed to catch his breath again. "Um, well, our life didn't really, you know, allow, um, time for that kind of thing," he stammered, before downing his entire pint and turned back to the barkeeper. "Yeah, I am going to need something stronger than this, I think."
The Bolian chuckled. "Lady being a bit more than you expected, eh? Don't worry kid, you will do fine." He poured a glass of a slightly spicy-smelling, brownish-gold liquid and handed it to Miles. The darker component of the cocktail formed a cloud-like swirl in the drink. "Have a dark and stormy, on the house."
Miles thanked the barkeeper, and turned back to his companion for the evening. "Um, yeah, why do you ask?"
Xia chuckled at Miles’ reaction. “Good. I just wondered how experienced you were,” she said, sipping her drink, eying him over the rim. “I mean, it would be a terrible thing if you were a virgin,” she teased. “I might have had to remedy that.” She winked at him, then turned her attention back to the crowd. “Mostly I just wanted to gauge your expectations for tonight.” She flashed him a pretty smile.
This woman was unbelievable, Miles thought to himself, as he took a sip from the drink the Bolian had given him. The flavour was quite pleasant, he found, a delicate balance of sweetness with a hint of spice, and a gingery note that warmed him from the inside. He decided to change the subject to something a little less forward. "So, Xia, that new ship we have is amazing, isn't it? I don't think I ever had a bed this big and comfortable!"
Damnit Miles, he thought to himself. She's going to turn that into more sex talk, you know it. Still, saying that he wasn't enjoying himself would be a blatant lie.
Xia chuckled. “We should give that bed a try out,” she teased MIles. “Though with your sister in the room, it could be awkward.” She grinned at the boy. “But yes, quite a lot of space, for a Romulan ship,” she admitted. “Wait until you serve on a Starfleet vessel, though I never got promoted enough to get one of the really nice rooms. As a lieutenant, you’re still lucky if you don’t get a roommate,” she admitted as she waved to the bartender for another round of drinks.
Miles shrugged. "Eh, Mila doesn't mind things like that. I've brought girls home before when we only had a single room. And now we have a small suite, so she has her own bedroom anyway. Still amazed that a military vessel would even have suites like that, at least for anyone below the commander! Gedak told me there's two of them, family suites, he called them. He's got one, and we've got the other one." He shook his head just as the barkeeper placed a new drink in front of him. He thanked the Bolian, and took another sip. "I can't believe that stingy Ferengi would be that generous. Someone must have twisted his arm quite hard."
“I can’t believe Romulans bring their families on board with them,” Xia said. “So you’re really close to your sister then, if she doesn’t mind you bringing girls home like that.” She arched an eyebrow at Miles. “What about her?” she wondered.
The young man chuckled into his drink. "Oh no, I'm not going there. If she found out that I told any stories about her, she'd probably come up with a million ways to creatively reconfigure my molecules in the most painful fashion. She may seem cute and innocent, but my dear sister has a powerful mean streak."
Xia laughed. “I like her,” she teased. “I will have to ask her, then,” she said with a chuckle.
"Hey, it's your head, not mine," Miles replied, with a shrug, before downing his drink and waving the barkeeper over for a refill. "You seem to be rather experienced, if I may say so?" he asked, surprised at his own boldness. The alcohol must be working.
Xia shrugged. “I figure life is too short. If you like someone, or just need to satisfy an itch, why not?” She tossed back another drink. “After all, you only live once. Might as well make the most of it.” She smiled at Miles. “Besides, it feels hella good.” She laughed. “Ever done it with a telepath?” she asked enticingly.
His inhibitions significantly lowered by the slowly rising level of alcohol in his blood, Miles cocked his head. "I've had two Human girls, and some Orions. A Vulcan at the height of pon farr, once. That was fun." He chuckled. "You wouldn't think it, but as a rather good racing pilot, you tend to get a lot of attention in some circles. Even at my young age." He cringed inwardly at his boastfulness. "But I hope you don't get offended when I decline your offer," he added, suddenly reverting back to his usual, more meek self.
“Not at all,” Xia said. “Just wondering what kind of girls to set you up with,” she teased. “Of course, if you like, I can get you off without any sex.” She grinned at him. “So how many bones did that Vulcan break?” she asked him. Vulcans in pon farr could get pretty violent.
Miles smirked. "Thank you for the offer, again, but no thanks. I can take care of that kind of thing myself. As for the bones," he took a sip from his drink, seemingly trying to remember the details. "Let's just say, quite a few. Although the titanium reinforcements really proved their worth then."
Xia just chuckled and tossed back another drink. “Well, if you change your mind, I can hook you up,” she said. “Now, shall we hit the club and go dancing?”
"Sure. Why not." Miles downed his drink and got up. The way this was going, it was going to be a long night.
Zero G wasn’t too far away. The large, warehouse-like room was black with holographic stars projected onto the walls, creating a sensation of the depths of space. Around the room were booths and tables, with patrons drinking, chatting, and taking a rest. The focus of the room was the center, clearly marked by a luminous while line. When one stepped across the line, gravity gave way, sending one floating upward, where a mass of people moved and gyrated in zero gravity.
“C’mon, love,” Xia said, grabbing Miles’ hand and dragging him across the line and up into the sky, pulling him close against her generous curves as they moved to the loud beat of the Millenium Sex Pickles.
