We've got a Problem

Mission: Chapter I: Resurgam
Location: The Raven's Claw
Timeline: In transit

"Coffee, black, hot." Raven smiled as the replicator in her ready room produced a mug filled with the steaming drink. Installing replicators on the ship had been Gedak's idea, and although they had only managed to install a few of them, they had made life on board the Raven's Claw a lot more convenient. She sat down behind her desk and logged onto her console to read the newest reports on the ship's status. The Claw's weapon systems and shields were performing as normal, and the cloaking device was ready to be deployed at any time. Raven nodded to herself and took a sip from her coffee. In just over 24 hours, they would arrive at the Haakona fleet yards, and put their scheme into action. Soon, she would meet with Areinnye to assign the teams for the three task groups needed to execute the plan. She grabbed a PADD and loked over the notes she had taken after her chat with Kaiae the previous evening. A good, balanced team would be crucial to the operation.

Rehana burst in without even bothering to ring the doorbell. "Boss, we've got a problem."

Alarmed, Raven looked up. "How bad a problem? Please don't tell me the ship is going to blow up."

Rehana grimaced and looked at the PADD in her hand. "I estimate no more than a 30% chance of that happening. Anyway. You know how half the stuff we've got installed on the Claw wasn't meant to be anywhere near her?"

"Yes," Raven replied, her eyes narrowing. "But you assured me it would all work fine. You said you had made sure when you installed it."

Rehana sighed. "This ship is held together by tape, chewing gum, string, and prayer, and we both know it. Systems like this ALWAYS take a lot of maintenance. I've been watching the hardware like a hawk, but something must have gotten into the software, because now the computer seems to think we're operating on a singularity core." Rehana paused. "We do not have a singularity core. So I'm basically sitting on top of the warp core all day, translating as fast as I can, but we either need a singularity core installed or..." Rehana's face twisted into an unhappy grimace. "We might have to ask some of our fancy new friends for help."

Raven cursed. "Can't you cobble something together to keep it working for a bit? We are heading into risky territory, we need the ship combat ready."

Rehana grinned slightly. "So...basically do what I've been doing since I came aboard. Yep, I can do that."

“Good. If the ship breaks down in the middle of our mission, we are going to be screwed. Massively. With what Areinnye is paying us, we could even buy the parts we need. Still, we are heading into a Romulan salvage yard, so with a bit of luck, we might be able to salvage something. Send me the specifications we would need.”

Rehana grimaces again. “I should remind you that the Romulans aren’t exactly going to let us...take the parts.”

Her commander raised an eyebrow. “Do you think we would be asking them for permission, Red? We are going in there under Tal Shiar disguise. I highly doubt they would actually try to stop us.”

Rehana raises an eyebrow. “Wait...this crew is going in disguise as the Tal Shiar?”

Raven nodded. “Yes. We are a Tal Shiar crew, working with Areinnye, who will be claiming to be Tal Prai’ex. Investigating terrorism at the Haakona yards. But we’ll do a full briefing with the details later today.”

Rehana’s mouth opens and closes for a moment. Then she bursts out laughing. “This crew will pretend to be Tal Shiar. This is either going to go horribly, hilariously, or both.”

For a minute, Raven was considering rebuking her chief engineer, before she, too, broke out in laughter. “Oh it is a rather hilarious scheme, but it got us onto the station so who’s to say it won’t work at the fleet yards?”

Rehana frowns. “For one thing, at the yards I don’t think Areinnye and her people will be able to help us as much. For another thing, there we’ll have to keep up the deception for a lot longer.”

“And that is why we need the cloak and defense systems to be working, Red,” Raven responded. “In case our disguise doesn’t hold up we have to be able to get out there quick. It doesn’t look like the yards are defended heavily at all, but safe is always better than sorry.”

Rehana sighs. “Yeah...you’re right. I’ll also make sure our engines are working. If I have to prioritize, which systems should I focus on?”

“Propulsion, cloak, shields, weapons. You can shut down most secondary systems once we get to the yards, I don’t think we’d need the kitchen, or waste disposal for that matter.”

“Right. So, propulsion, cloak, shields, weapons, life support?”

Raven nodded. “Navigation and communications as well. And transporters, in case we need to extract our task teams.”

“The usual then.” Rehana sighs. “The systems are going to hate me, but I think I can make it work.”

“Right.” Raven nodded, and stood. “I need to go find Areinnye. You best get to work.”
